Tomba Math Summer Camp

Tomba Math Summer Camp

The two-week Tomba Math Summer Camp is a unique academic program held on the Technion campus, offering a full campus experience that includes residence in Technion dormitories throughout the weekdays. The camp combines in-depth study of number theory with a practical introduction to the RSA encryption system, highlighting the connection between a classical mathematical field and contemporary applications in cryptography and technology. Alongside the academic program, participants take part in a variety of social and recreational activities, including sports, movies, and excursions.

The camp is open to high school students in grades 9-12 who excel in mathematics. Participants are selected through a careful screening process based on high school recommendations and personal interviews. Applicants who have successfully completed a mathematical course at the Open University are exempt from submitting a high school recommendation. Enrollment is limited to approximately twenty students each year, allowing for an intensive and focused learning environment.

Studies are conducted according to a dedicated curriculum developed by the Technion Faculty of Mathematics specifically for the camp. Participants learn in small groups of five, under the guidance of academic counselors who are students from the Faculty of Mathematics. Towards the end of the camp, an encryption competition is held between the student groups, providing an opportunity to apply the mathematical knowledge acquired during the program. In addition, researchers from the Faculty of Mathematics deliver lectures on various topics related to number theory.

All academic activities are conducted in Hebrew and take place on the Technion campus. During the weekdays, participants reside in the Technion dormitories and return home for Shabbat. Outside academic hours, the students are accompanied by camp counselors who oversee the social activities and students’ well-being.

The tuition fee for the camp is 2,250 NIS.
