Comba Math Summer Camp

Comba Math Summer Camp

The Comba Math Summer Camp is an advanced two-week program held on the Technion campus, offering a full campus experience that includes residence in Technion dormitories during the weekdays. The camp combines an in-depth study of graph theory with its practical applications, including the question of how navigation applications such as Waze compute shortest paths so efficiently, and the mathematical algorithms underlying these solutions. Alongside the academic program, participants take part in a variety of social and recreational activities, including sports, movies, and excursions.

Comba is a sequel to the Tomba Math Summer Camp, delivered at a more advanced level and following a similar academic format. The two camps run in parallel and alongside one another. The camp is open to graduates of Tomba as well as to high school students in grades 10-12 with a strong mathematical background. Enrollment is limited, and participants are selected through personal interviews, allowing for a focused and intensive learning environment.

Studies are conducted according to a dedicated curriculum developed by the Technion Faculty of Mathematics specifically for the camp. Participants learn in small groups of five under the guidance of academic counselors who are students from the Faculty of Mathematics. Towards the end of the program, a competition is held between student groups, providing an opportunity to apply the mathematical knowledge acquired during the camp. In addition, researchers from the Faculty of Mathematics deliver enrichment lectures on various topics related to graph theory.

All academic activities are conducted in Hebrew and take place on the Technion campus. Outside academic hours, the students are accompanied by camp counselors who oversee the social activities and students’ well-being.

The tuition fee for the camp is 2,150 NIS.
